writingWriting feels like a drug.

It’s highly addictive, exhilarating and transforming. However, unlike the negative side effects of drugs, writing brings forth clarity, sanity and relief. Well, the last characteristic is true for drugs too. At least, temporarily.

But I digress.

I’ve always been a writer, composing short stories, movie scripts and even songs. But, much to my chagrin, my creativity got beaten out of me in school. I conformed and my writing juices dried out.

All that changed last year as I recovered from anorexia. I picked up journaling for the first time in ages and the transformation that has taken place because of this tiny change was incredible. I embraced life and myself and I slowly started to heal.

Through writing, I slowly accepted my body in its natural shape. Step by step, I began to be fascinated by my body’s alliance, hard work and immense wisdom.

Sharing my feelings, opening up about my struggles provided me with strength, hope and a surprising amount of support from my innermost core.

Writing often helped me to express what I hadn’t yet been able to put into spoken words.
