In this episode of the Escape Diet Prison Podcast we talk about body checking, the cost of it and how to begin beating the body checking monster in you to the ground. Lovingly, of course. 😉

Body checking is the repeated act of “checking” specific body parts or your entire body. Some body check five times a minutes, others once an hour, but most often, those who struggle with their body image, body check in a rather frequent rhythm.

The sneaky monster called body checking can show up as constant critical looks in the mirror, trying on certain clothes over and over again, pinching your fat, even measuring the circumference of your arms. Weighing yourself daily (or more often), feeling your bones (can I feel them yet?) or squeezing your belly are also “simple” signs of a harmful relationship with your body and its image.

Body checking is obviously destructive,

time-consuming and devastating for your self-confidence.

Letting go of body checking is therefor an essential step on the way to body neutrality and freedom from food obsession.

Here are the 7 steps to stop body checking that Deb and I discuss:

Get crystal clear of the cost of body checking

What is body checking costing you for real? Relationships, money, time, happiness? Is it worth the power you give it?

Slow down to speed up

It’s all in the baby steps. Yes, you’ll have to decide to break up with the body checking part of you, but you also need to be aware of the process: it’s a daily practice that will take its time.

Use the power of mantras and affirmations

To support yourself on the road to body checking, you’ll need to create pillars that ground you in the moment. Listen to this episode of the podcast for suggestions.

How do you body check?

Having a clear picture of how exactly it is you body check will give you a perfect idea of why you body check.

Create contact with your body

Replace your usual body checking motions with more empowering contact. Instead of critically checking and judging, allow your hands to caress and love.

Get clear on what it is you’re looking for?

Why do you body check? What are you looking for? Is that a realistic and tangible thing or is it an idea in your head, a hope for safety and peace of mind?

Stop following society’s rules!

You do not need to live on the diet band waggon just because society does. Pave your own path and create your very own bubble of confidence and freedom.
