I can’t afford it.

Do you know these words?

I say them ALL THE TIME. Way too often, in fact.

I can’t afford this latte. I can’t afford this dress. I can’t afford the Reiki session. I can’t afford getting a manicure. I just can’t afford it…

And while what I’m saying is definitely true, the thing is that words have power, so much power. And the more we repeat something, the more we take it as a fact, believe it to be truth.  That way, we keep ourselves trapped in this limiting belief of not having enough, not being enough and not deserving more.

A great way to turn around this destructive behavior is to work on your pleasure threshold, to walk outside your comfort zone and treat yourself to things you might not be able to afford – at first glance.

Changing I can’t afford it to I can so afford it

A few months ago, I fell in love with a Michael Kors cardigan that cost way more than I had ever spent on a piece of clothing. I tried it on, walked out of the store, walked back in, tried it on again, walked back out. I went home without purchasing it but for an entire week, I couldn’t stop thinking about that cardigan. It was so soft, so beautiful and looked great on my skin. But it was too much money, how could I justify a purchase like that?

I mulled it over again and again until I decided to just go for it. I wanted it and I deserved it after having worked so hard for so long. And besides, I could afford it. So, back to the store I went having made up my mind that I wasn’t going to leave without that cardigan. And you know what? It was reduced by more than half the price. You should’ve seen my face.

THAT’s the power of believing in yourself and changing the dialoge within.

The next time you tell yourself you can’t ever afford something like that, challenge yourself and your inner belief system by simply saying “I can afford it”.

You love that designer dress but it’s out of your price range? You can afford it!

You want that car but can’t see how you are going to pay for it? You can afford it.

You need a manicure and a new haircut but are super short on money? You can afford it.

You sooo want to fly first class once in your life but have never dared to book that seat? You can afford it.

Let your imagination fly and every time you hear that vicious voice telling you that you will never make it work, tell it to shut up and say out loud that you can afford it.
