Today’s my birthday!!!!
Can we have a round of smiles and dance a little in our PJs while listening to Good Life by OneRepublic?
Cool! Thanks for joining me in this silliness.
I have to make a confession: I don’t usually celebrate my birthday at all. I think the last time I had a birthday party was when I was 13 or so. As much as this might surprise you, I don’t like to be the center of attention for too long. And I just never saw the point of birthdays.
However, for some unknown reason, turning 26 matters to me. Maybe it’s because I’ll be 27 next year; a thought that really freaked me out a few months ago.
Or maybe I am just finally realizing that I matter and that me being here is a cause of celebration.
Or maybe there’s no reason for my excitement at all.
However, whether you’re as excited about birthdays as my sister is (love you, girl) or you couldn’t care less about having a new number associated to you, birthdays – like New Year’s – can be a great source of reflection.
Birthdays give you the opportunity to think back on everything you did in the past 12 months, all the victories you’ve had and all the losses you’ve experienced. They give you the chance to see how much you’ve grown or show you that you’re still in the same place as before – happily or not.
Birthdays allow you to dream and write down wishes for yourself and your life. Where do you want to be in 12 months? What do you want to create? Who do you want to be with and where do you want to live? What do you want to have and what do you want to desperately get rid of?
Come to think of it, birthdays are actually a pretty cool thing. 🙂
As I was meditating on my victories, my challenges and my big revelations, I came up with 26 lessons that I want to share with you today.
So, if you want to learn about life, are curious how I see the world at this moment in time and want to know what Gabby Bernstein, massages and skinny jeans have to do with my birthday, then watch this week’s video of Love Yourself Friday!
I could have added so many more lessons like how red lips and scarves turn any bad day around or how it’s crucial to always have band-aids in your purse or how you never stop learning or how there’s no such thing as better food than home-cooked German food or how worrying about the future is useless and senseless or how traveling is the ultimate way to understanding this world and understanding yourself or how it’s OK to dream big and want a lot.
It turns out that you learn a lot in 26 years. I can’t even begin to imagine how much I’ll learn in the next 26 years and more.
Now it’s your turn. Which lesson did you like most? Was there something that surprised you? And, more importantly, which lessons have you learned in your life that matter to you and that you’d like to share with us?
If you enjoyed this video, then I’d so appreciate you sharing it on Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest and email. That’d be my perfect birthday gift. 🙂
I so agree with the home-made German food. One word: Bratkartoffeln! I always cook my favorite meal for my birthday and I take myself out to my favorite pub to have a beer. Later on, I invite all my friends to celebrate at the pub (my house is too small for them all).
I’m a celibate, I wouldn’t celebrate on my own, but my friends really make a point that they want to celebrate with me, because for some weird reason, they like having me around. And that in turn makes me extra happy.
Yes, Bratkartoffeln; looove them. I’m glad your friends make your birthday extra special and hey, I totally get why they like having you around. 🙂
A big huge happy birthday to you! You deserve a day to celebrate how wonderful you are. I hope you take that time and bask in your own grace.
Thanks, sweetie. I tried my best to bask in my own grace and I’m hoping that this year, I’ll continue to do it every day. As always, I so appreciate you commenting. Hugs
Happy Birthday to you! I like your style more so than the skinny pretty girl you mentioned. We can relate to you!!! xoxoxo
Thank you, Tess. So kind of you to say that. xxx
I hope you had a great bday… and I am glad that you celebrated.. because you do have a lot to celebrate. I know it hasn’t been easy. 🙂 and I know a lot of people do not celebrate their birthdays.. they get all caught up in the whole “age” thing…. BLAH!!!! I LOVE my birthday!!!! I never look at it as getting older… I love my birthday.. it is a celebration.. I MADE IT TO ANOTHER YEAR!!! what ever I had been through that year… good or bad… I made it.. I did it. I succeeded, I failed, it doesn’t matter…. that year is over now… my birthday is here start over. ANd more times than not I am better than where I was the year before. Now, this past birthday…. I barely made it!!! just barely…. but I did. And I am glad that I did! because I have made great strides since then. and birthdays should always be happy times… and definitely SKINNY JEANS TOO!!! LOL… and in honor of you anne… I BOUGHT A PAIR TODAY!!! the skinniest pair I have ever in my life owned!!!!! FYI…. and I have to say, I absolutely love them… so, happy birthday to you… and happy ego trip to me.. to help me start to like my body more!! LOL I love you girl…. <3
I’ve never gotten caught up in the age thing. Granted, I’m still young, but my mom never made a fuss about getting older. So, I have a great role model in that regard. Congrats on those skinny jeans. I know it’s a big step. Celebrate yourself. 🙂
Just seen this Anne-Sophie! Wishing you a very, very happy birthday and I will toast you with my hot chocolate tonight! Here’s to birthdays, they are to be celebrated and I should know, I’ve had quite a few! It’s all good, have fun! xx
Thank you, Tina. Toasting with hot chocolate is the best way to toast. Funny but I’m drinking one right now too. Much love to you
